Does anyone have any info on home exercises patients can use to increase lumbar extension?
- Consider why the movement is limited first.
- Here's a thought - you carry your exercise encylopaedia round with you all day, every day. Why not try this. Do the thing yourself that the patient can't do. Then think of a minimum of 10 different ways that you can make yourself do that thing. Once you have your 10 - think of a way to progress each of them (chance your 'plan A' is too easy for the patient - they don't fatigue within a reasonable amount of reps). Then think of a way to regress each of them (chance your 'plan A' is too tough for your patient - and they fatigue too quickly/it hurts). You'll then have 30 things that you could do - your patient will never get bored (nor will you). Think about the difference between an activity that has the potential to mobilise and an activity that has the potential to strengthen. Then teach them REALLY well.
